Kevala Retreat

Kevala Retreat (formerly Liberation Park) is a Dhamma refuge in southwestern Wisconsin that hosts contemplative retreats. Our roots are in the Thai Theravada tradition of Buddhism and we are inspired by Suan Mokkh, the Garden of Liberation founded by Buddhadasa Bhikkhu in southern Thailand. We are dedicated to providing a natural setting for personal retreatand study, and living out Buddhist ethics of healing, right relationship, ecological care, and social responsibility in service of awakening to wholeness (kevala).

Current residents are Santikaro, Jo Marie, and various cats and horses. We have many visitors, both wild and domesticated. We are dedicated to a modern expression of Buddhist life that is true to the Early Teachings. Venerable Buddhadasa Bhikkhu is our major inspiration.

Santikaro leads a meditation and study session on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. at Bridges United Methodist Church, 721 King Street, La Crosse. Sangha members sit in meditation for about 45 minutes and then Santi gives a talk or leads a discussion. Please arrive by 6:25 p.m. if possible.

Location information -- Important!  The outer church doors are locked. The evening's hosts will arrive early to set up and meet you at the door. Please use the 721 King Street entrance, where one of us will be waiting to greet you. Knock if you don't see anyone. There will be plenty of parking on King Street. The church also has parking spaces off of 8th St.

Meditation starts at 6:30 pm. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before then. The "Lounge" where we will be meeting has many chairs. If you prefer to sit on the floor, please bring your own mat and cushion or kneeler.

Dāna (donations, gifts, free-will offerings) to sustain Liberation Park and support our work are most welcome.
